The Essential Question: NYC Singer/Song Writer/Performer Jennifer Groves

City/Suburb? I wanna say both…
Graffiti: Crime/Art? Wait! Graffiti art or crime? What does that mean? Oh! I get it now…art.
Bronx/Brooklyn? Neither. Manhattan baby.
Broadway/Off/Off-Off? OFF.
Time/Time Out? Time.
In/Outdoor Person? I like outdoor cafes but I like the indoors too.
Subway/Cab? Cab! (laughing) Cab definitely. Money…you know…umm…well, unfortunely I usually have to take the subway but a cab is a real treat (smiling).
Domestic/Import? Import…because it seems like anything good is from another country. It’s usually more cheaper or better…or, or, I’m thinking of clothes and cars and furniture, I just like the design better.
Non/conformist? Non! But would like to one day be a conformist…why? Because I think that’s what ‘grownups’ are supposed to do!
Dog/Cat? Dog! I don’t really like cats…..Love dogs, prefer fat cats to skinny ones….have guinea pig. Her name is LaClare. When my mom died a friend of ours, his last name was LaClare…he helped us so much during that time, I named her after him to pay homage.
Plastic/Cash? That’s a tough question. Love both. Put ‘love both…’
In/Extravert? I’m actually both. Extravert around strangers…introvert around those I love. (Hesitating). Yeah. That’s actually pretty true!
Payless/Gallo? Gallo. Well, I’m not really…I’m a bargain shopper! Gallo shoes, Payless prices!
Library/store? Bookstore. Why? Libraries are too sterile for me. Actually I prefer used book stores…they have a lot of character. And the people that work there. They’re usually pretty literate…they’re dorks basically.
Morning/Night Owl? Definitely night. I can barely get up at 8:30 for work.
Salt/fresh water? Definitely a salt water girl. Ocean!
Heels or Flats? Always, always, always heels. I find it…I feel much sexier in heels!
Little Italy: Bronx/NYC? I’ve never been to Little Italy in the Bronx so I’m gonna have to say Manhattan. I would definitely like to got to Little Italy in the Bronx.
Dublin/London? Dublin. And I’ve never even been there. I don’t like London…it’s too grey. (You been there?) Yeah. Standard/Automatic? Definitely Standard! I like to feel the car shift. And I feel like a bad ass that I’m a woman and I know how to drive a stick shift. My father bought me a FIREBIRD and told me I had to learn.
Gum/Tic-tac? Gum…always. Cuz it last longer.
Driver/Passenger? I’d rather be a Driver! But since I live in Manhattan, I’m usually the passenger. I want to be a driver again! Put that in.
Stones/Beatles? Stones….sick of the Beatles. Um…I don’t know the Stones to me are more raw…they’re just more rock-n-roll. The Beatles seem more intellectual where the Stones seem more raw and emotional.
Coffee/tea? Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. And more coffee. I can’t stress that enough.
John Steinbeck/Updike? You know that’s a tough one. I only know Updike so I can’t really make that decision.
Passive/Aggressive? (Pause) I would say passive. Aggressive…when things don’t go MY way. (Smiling).

Kate: NYC Actress

City/Suburb? Both, I love NYC and missed it when I was away but I was in some pretty remote towns when I was in Australia and it was just amazing, unlike anything I’ve ever seen.

Graffiti: Crime/Art?. Um,,,it depends. Where the graffiti is and if it's good or not. I’ve seen some art that’s pretty amazing and other that is rubbish!

Bronx/Brooklyn? Well, I was a little disappointed when New Jersey wasn’t there but I’d have to say the Bronx because I’ve spend more time there and I’m a Yankee fan.

Passive/Aggressive? I’d say I’m more aggressive then passive in a nice way (laughing).
John: Updike/Steinbeck? Steinbeck…you know a novel is good when you read it when you’re in high school and it just stays with you.

Broadway/Off/Off-Off? Yes. I love theater,,,I love all theater, I love how brave people are to take part in their art, whether it’s Broadway, community theater, off off..

Time/Time Out? Time out magazine! It’s like the cliff notes of how to be a cool New Yorker.

In/Outdoor Person? Depends on the day,,,in the summer, I want to do everything outside and the first snowy day but when it’s raining, I just want to sit around and watch movies.

Subway/Cab? Um…yeah, I use both. I use the subway more, I think it’s great that it’s so fast but it’s great to jump in a cab when your feet are really tired.

Domestic/Import? Well, this is a tough question because I currently have a Volkswagen Jetta but hope to one day own a 1963 Corvette…my dad’s a car guy and it’s been bred into me.

Non/conformist? Um…I’m an actor so I’d probably say non conformist.

Dog/Cat? Dog, something happens to me when I see a dog, I’m the girl who makes those cutesy noises when I see a dog, especially when I ‘m walking through Central Park in the mornings…I usually walk to work.

Plastic/Cash? Cash, because I’m being responsible now.

In/Extrovert?It depends on the situation…I can be extremely extroverted and other days…

Payless/Gallo? All shoes (laughing). As long as they’re cute,,,I don’t care where they come from.
Library/book store? Well, because I have a history of not returning books so I have to say book store, I’m pretty possessive over holding onto good books.

Morning/night owl? I like mornings…I like to get up and get started with my day…I feel like I’m ready to work in the morning…I think it just depends on your temperment.

Fresh/salt water? I kind of dig the beach, the ocean, there is something soothing about listening to the waves.

Heels/flats? Heels, I try to buy flats but I can’t justify buying flats when I see a cute pair of heels and they make me taller which is always a good thing.

Little Italy in Bronx/NYC? You know I didn’t realize how much I missed the Italian influence until I left the Tri-State area, both. The pizza (in Australia) is so different.

London/Dublin? I’ve never been to London, always wanted to go, but Dublin is beautiful.

Standard/automatic? (Laughing) I don’t think anyone’s been brave enough to let me learn, so automatic…

Gum/tic tac? I think tic tacs are funny, you have one and then you end up having five,,,Yeah, I don’t know if I have a preference for either,,,,I don’t like the noise tic tacs make in your bag, sounds like you’re popping pills or something.

Driver/passenger? Driver, I love driving.

Stones/Beatles? That’s a tough question,,,I’m going to have to say Beatles, I grew up with it, my parents raised me on it,…

Tea/coffee? Coffee (laughing),,,I don’t think I actually start feeling like a person until I have my coffee in the morning.

The Engineer that Could...

City/Suburb? Oh, city. You can be alone in the city and have company just when you want it, you can have more freedom.

Graffiti: Crime/Art?Depends what it's on I suppose. Spraying graffiti on sheep is the new thing here in Ireland (laughing).

Bronx/Brooklyn?I've never been to Brooklyn. Or have I?

Passive/Aggressive?Passive.

John: Updike/Steinbeck?
...I don't know.

Broadway/Off/Off-Off?
I prefer off off, why? Because it's less professional and I feel more comfortable in those surroundings. Plus it can be good or shit and it just doesn't matter.

Time/Time Out? Time.

In/Outdoor Person?
Bit of both.

Subway/Cab?
Subway.

Domestic/Import? Would have to be import, there's no domestic.

Non/conformist? I suppose a nonconformist.

Dog/Cat?...you know I hate our dog at the moment and I have this little kitten, so now I'm a cat person.

Plastic/Cash?Cash.

In/Extrovert?
Depends on the company. I'm not really good at hiding from people that make me feel uncomfortable or people that I don't like so I guess I'd be introverted in that situation.

Payless/Gallo?Payless.

Library/store?Book store.

Morning/NightOwl?Morning, I love getting up early.

Salt/fresh water?Fresh. There's lots of lakes around here...I used to be a lifeguard.

Heels or Flats?Ummm...flats.

Little Italy:Bronx/NYC?I like Manhattan.

Dublin/London?Definatlely Dublin, without a doubt!

Standard/Automatic?

Standard.

Gum/Tic-tac?
Tic tac

Driver/Passenger?Driver, I'm a control freak, I'm not comfortable...well it depends on who's driving a guess.

Stones/Beatles?
I'd say the Beatles but I think they're both overrated.

Coffee/tea?
Ah, tea.

The Quintessential (very Irish) Teacher

City/Suburb?
Suburb. Cities gimme migraines.

Graffiti: Crime/Art?Oh, art...can look deadly.

Bronx/Brooklyn?Never been to Brooklyn so I have to say Bronx.

Passive/Aggressive?Aggressive...makes you feel like you're alive!
John: Updike/Steinbeck?Neither, John John, the Piper's Son!!

Broadway/Off/Off-Off?Hmmm...off broadway...more creative than broadway and you have you have the comfort of a comfy seat (unlike off-off). I like my home comforts.
Time/Time Out? That's a tough one, both of them have merits...both cater to different needs.
In/Outdoor Person?
In Ireland? In. The rest of the world? Out. You figure out why.

Subway/Cab?
Subway...I like to figure out where to go myself...explore.

Domestic/Import?
That's a toughy, isn't? Jeez, I don't know...

Non/conformist? Conformist when it suits.

Dog/Cat?
Dog...don't trust cats.

Plastic/Cash?Cash. Don't trust plastic in recessions.

In/Extrovert?
Depends on the mood.

Payless/Gallo?
Payless...due to Catholic guilt on spending.

Library/store?
Book store. Love to see the latest stock.

Morning/NightOwl?
Night owl...it's seriously dangerous to come near me in the morning. Seriously.

Salt/fresh water?
Salt. Since mommy is from an island (Donegal).

Heels or Flats?Heels all the way baby!

Little Italy:Bronx/NYC?
These questions don't really apply to us here in Ireland. We don't have either. No, wait, there is an Italian take out here in Carrick, they have really good garlic bread...so I prefer the little Italy right here in Carrick-on-Shannon. My brother says it's owned by a Polish family but I don't care, I'll still eat their Italian, it's good Italian...

Dublin/London?
Neither. Don't like Dublin...and I have never been to London...So, it has to be Boston.

Standard/Automatic?
We only have standards here but hang on I have when I lived in America, automatic is easier.

Gum/Tic-tac?
Gum with nice flavours...that's how we spell it here, with the u.

Driver/Passenger?Driver because you get the control of the music...rock on!

Stones/Beatles?
(hesitating) Beatles I guess.

Coffee/tea?
Hot water.

The Essential Question: Michael Buckley

City/Suburb? City, no doubt.
Graffiti: Crime/Art? I consider it art when it's on the subway. I would consider it a crime if it was on my property (laughing)
Bronx/Brooklyn?
Brooklyn
Passive/Aggressive? I'm Irish, so I have an Irish Temper. I'm usually easy going and happy-go-lucky but I can become aggressive without warning and it can get ugly.
John: Updike/Steinbeck? Steinbeck.
Broadway/Off/Off-Off? Off Broadway.
Time/Time Out? I get Time Out. It's something to read while you're taking a dump, which is true, it really is.
In/Outdoor Person? In door.
Subway/Cab? (laughing) Considering my financial situation, I should be a subway person but I'm not. I take a lot of cabs.
Domestic/Import? I don't drive.
Non/conformist? Non Conformist...I feel like a conformist by answering the question with this answer.
Dog/Cat? Dog, I'm allergic to cats. Cats are uppity.
Plastic/Cash? Cash!
In/Extrovert? Extrovert I guess. I think most comedians are actually introverts.
Payless/Gallo? I think shoes are important. I do tend to spend money on footwear and hair cuts...I like girls I swear.
Library/store? Book Store...if I really like a book I'll buy it.
Morning/NightOwl? Definitely a night person. What ever happens during the day that's all that interesting?
Salt/fresh water? Fresh water to drink, salt to swim in.
Heels or Flats? I prefer girls in nothing at all.
Little Italy:Bronx/NYC? There's a little Italy in the Bronx? I live in Manhattan,,,I try not to leave the island!
Dublin/London? This is awful...I've never been to either! I guess Dublin, it's where my people are from.
Standard/Automatic? I prefer to have a chauffeur, given the choice.
Gum/Tic-tac? Oh, gum.
Driver/Passenger? Passenger.
Stones/Beatles? Beatles,,I love them both. I don't know anyone with taste who doesn't like the Beatles.
Coffee/tea? Coffee. I would mainline caffeine, I would free base coffee, I'm in it for the caffeine!

NYC Comedian Graham Keay

City/Suburb?
Definately city, suburbs create racism, create classism, they destroy society, you don't have porches, stoops, you don't walk on streets, you have to drive, I hate suburbs, it's a terrible concept. They are a failed experiment from the 1950's.
Graffiti: Crime/Art?Art.
Bronx/Brooklyn?Brooklyn! No doubt, Bronx is too far, No disrespect to Boogie Down,,,Brooklyn has a beach.

Passive/Aggressive? Aggressive. If you're passive, nothing is going to happen, you'll wake up when you're 85 and realize your brain is mushy.
John: Updike/Steinbeck?I guess Steinbeck, um...cuz I remember reading something of his in ninth grade and I forget what it was but it made me want to work harder but I never did...I read Of Mice and Men last year, it's a sad story, reminds me of Frankinstein and King Kong...a big and misunderstood guy who gets taken advantage of and then when he stands up for himself, he's crushed.
Broadway/Off/Off-Off?(laughing) I guess off broadway. I've only seen Broadaway plays and they are truly horrilbe, they are only for tourists from people from the Mid West. I think off broadway plays are the only plays so I should probably go and see those but I have no money and no one to go with...unless they take me.
Time/Time Out? Everytime I buy Time Out magazine I never read it. It's just too much,,,I'm missing everything...it just makes me feel like a big loser. It tells me of everything that's happening in New York and I can't be there...I spent five dollars on the magazine and it gets me depressed.

In/Outdoor Person?In door
Subway/Cab?I guess subway.
Domestic/Import? I don't know. I'm from Canada, they're all imports.
Non/conformist? Non conformist...all comedians should be.
Dog/Cat?Dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Someone once told me cats are smarter but they're not, dogs come when you call them, cats don't.
Plastic/Cash?I don't have a bank so cash.
In/Extrovert?Um...introvert.
Payless/Gallo?
I pay a lot of money,,,,I have 13 pairs of shoes.
Library/store?I think libraries are better but I probably haven't been to a library in five years. I just realized I was holding the phone upside down.
Morning/NightOwl?Night person. I think most comedians are night people,,,,I don't know if that's just aquired or by nature.
Salt/fresh water?I like fresh water because we had fresh water (lakes) by our cottage. Most people in Canada have cottages, also, it doesn't hurt your eyes.
Heels or Flats?Heels.
Little Italy:Bronx/NYC?I never been to the one in the Bronx. The one in the city doesn't exsist anymore. It's surrounded by China-town, owned by Albanians and cooked by Mexicans, there's nothing Italian about Little Italy in Manhattan.
Dublin/London?London. Dublin sounds depressing but I've never been. Most of England is beautiful, like Ireland, London is fun, I like London.
Standard/Automatic?Standard.
Gum/Tic-tac?Gum.
Driver/Passenger?Feel like I should say driver but I prefer to sleep.
Stones/Beatles?Stones without a doubt.

Coffee/tea?Coffee.
